Lakeside Winter Wedding

Hailey and Colin wanted snow, and they got snow for their winter wedding overlooking Lake Coeur d’Alene.

Two weeks before Christmas, with the Hagadone Events Center decorated with trees, lights and ornaments, this Seattle couple hosted their their chic holiday wedding.

The venue had more to offer than just a great view.

Colin proposed to Hailey at Lake Coeur d’Alene, because she spent her childhood on that lake boating and waterskiing with her family. It’s her “happy place” in this world. Ultimately, it made complete sense to have their wedding over-looking Lake Coeur d’Alene.

While the wedding was held inside, the wrap-around views gave their family and friends the opportunity to enjoy the wintery view without all of the chill. But decorating a big open space wasn’t all that easy for Hailey and Colin.

“Since the venue is one big space with all glass walls and a super high ceiling, I felt like that was the only part we could really decorate and make unique to our wedding, as well as add some depth to the space,” Hailey explained about the space. “We painstakingly planned every single detail of the tables, from photos, to name cards and escort cards, matching fonts and colors of paper for the menus and programs, the flatware, chargers, napkins, table cloths, chairs, floral arrangements, etc. to make sure ALL of it flowed. We didn’t want one thing to not go with another, while making sure nothing was too themed.”

To start the day though, Hailey and Colin exchanged their gifts. Custom cuff links with Colin’s family tartan added a touch of style and heritage to the grooms suit. And Hailey, as well as every girl in the room, had their breath taken away by the Tiffany diamond ear rings she received.

Once the initial preparations were complete, the wedding party made their way to the event center on the grounds of The Coeur d’Alene Resort golf course for a first look by the fire place and portraits inside to keep warm. This proved to be a challenge due to lighting conditions and reflections, but we were able to keep those challenges at bay and capture some great moments and portraits.

In a tribute to Colin’s mother, Hailey’s mother presented him a commemorative glass rose for him to place on her empty seat. It was a very emotional moment that showed how well these families have bonded already.

Hailey’s proud father walked her down the aisle to a very anxious groom. The ceremony was officiated by a close friend and there were plenty of laughs and other great moments before the kiss sealed the deal.

Then it was time to celebrate with friends and family. Hailey had a few laughs as Colin endured a bit of a loving roast from his recently acquired father-in-law. And everyone had a great time once the music started mixing it up with some “interesting” dance moves, sharing stories and moments on the dance floor, and simply enjoying the celebration.

This couple had done a tone of prep work and was ready for just about everything. But what they didn’t expect might surprise you.

“(We didn’t expect) to love it as much as we did, honestly. We had been told you won’t remember everything, something will go wrong, it will be a blur, blah blah blah. NONE of that happened for us,” Hailey explained. “At the end of the night, we looked at each other and said, ‘Did we literally just have a perfect wedding?!’”

As Hailey and Colin exited their reception and began their honeymoon in a much warmer climate, family and friends showered them with lavender. Their winter wedding was a success.

Hailey and Collin’s wedding planning tips:

  • Do exactly what you want. Seriously. If you want gold flatware or 48 feet of garland for your aisle, just do it. This is your ONE day.
  • BE HAPPY the day of your wedding, meaning let all of the planning worries you’ve had during your engagement go.  The more you just enjoy and live in that day, all of your pictures will showcase the happiness felt in that day, and your guests will FEEL that happiness exuding from you, which will make the entire day SO MUCH MORE FUN for everyone.
  • You will never have a day like this again. The special feelings you get on your wedding day can’t be described or ever exactly felt again, so just soak it in, smile, laugh, dance, and hug everyone.
